Golden Tiger's Eye – Stone of Clarity & Strength

Golden and shimmering like the sun over a savanna, the tiger's eye captivates with its silky luster. When you turn it, the light runs across its surface like liquid metal – a phenomenon called chatoyancy , the "cat's eye effect." It seems as if the stone itself has an eye, watching and protecting. In the hand, it lies warm and smooth, powerful yet grounding – a piece of concentrated earth energy.

What is tiger's eye? – Origin & mineralogy

Golden tiger's eye is a variety of the mineral quartz , more precisely a silicification of the originally fibrous mineral crocidolite (blue asbestos). During the fossilization process, the crocidolite was permeated and completely replaced by silicon dioxide – its fibrous structure was preserved and is responsible for the characteristic play of light. Iron oxide colors the crystals in golden to brown tones, reminiscent of a tiger's eyes.

In its natural form, tiger's eye grows in metamorphic rock, often near quartz veins. Important deposits are found in South Africa, Namibia, Australia, and India .

How does red tiger's eye form?

Red tiger's eye is not a separate mineral, but a thermally altered variety of golden tiger's eye. Through controlled heating —usually in an oxygen furnace—the iron in the stone oxidizes more intensely, changing its color from golden brown to a warm mahogany red . This discoloration intensifies the luster and brings out a new, fiery depth. In nature, a similar effect can occur through volcanic heat or storage in hot, iron-rich environments.
