✨ The Medicine Buddha – and why his sound has been healing for centuries
Sangye Menla – the Medicine Buddha – is, in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Buddha of healing, with lapis lazuli-blue skin and a left hand holding the Myrobalan fruit, the most potent remedy in Ayurvedic medicine. Monks recited his mantra – “Om Bekandze Bekandze Maha Bekandze Radza Samudgate Soha" – to accompany the sick and alleviate pain. Singing bowls with his engraving have been used in Nepalese monasteries for centuries for meditations and healing rituals: The sound sets the body into vibration, the image carries the intention.
