In ancient India, the ruby was called "Ratnaraj" —the king of gemstones. Warriors wore it beneath their armor, believing its fire would make them invincible. Kyanite, on the other hand, was considered a compass stone by medieval travelers: suspended by a thread, it was said to always point north. What few people know is that rubies are actually UV fluorescent . The red glow under black light is caused by chromium ions in the crystal lattice, which absorb ultraviolet light and re-emit it as visible red. Science that feels like pure magic. And kyanite?
