That's probably the most frequently asked question! The answer is: Yes and no.
- Relationship: Both belong to the family of chalcedony (quartz).
- The difference: True onyx is usually pure black or has parallel, straight white lines. Black agate often shows the banding typical of agates (circular or wavy) when held up to the light.
- Truth: In the trade, deep black agate is often sold as "onyx" because they have a very similar energetic effect.
