What makes this Amethyst with Limonite inclusion so special?
Amethyst is a purple variety of the mineral quartz (SiO₂) with a Mohs hardness of 7. The purple color is caused by traces of iron and natural radiation during its formation. What makes this rough stone special: The orange areas come from iron oxide inclusions and give the piece additional character. Such balanced combinations are rarely found.
How do I properly care for my Amethyst Geode?
Amethyst can be briefly rinsed with lukewarm water – the geode form tends to collect dust, and a soft brush helps wonderfully. Direct, intense sunlight for extended periods should be avoided, as UV light can bleach the purple color. For charging, we recommend moonlight (especially during a full moon), a selenite charging plate, or smudging with Palo Santo or sage.
How do I recognize real Amethyst?
Real amethyst geodes show individually formed, pointed crystal tips with natural color variations – from almost colorless to deep violet within the same stone. Dyed glass imitations lack this irregularity: they appear too uniform and too saturated. Synthetic amethyst also exists on the market and is often too flawless visually. Natural Brazilian geodes like this one also typically show the white-gray chalcedony outer layer and the rough, unprocessed underside – both are beautifully visible here. A good sign: no perfect uniformity, but lots of character.
Can I use the Amethyst geode as a jewelry dish or tray?
Absolutely – and that's even one of the most beautiful ways to use an open geode! The hollow form is wonderful for holding small crystals, rings, or other jewelry pieces. Many Reiki practitioners and spiritual workers place their palm stones in the geode dish overnight to charge them. Important: The base is natural and not flat – a small non-slip mat or felt pad underneath protects both the stone and your surface. The sharp amethyst crystals could scratch your softer crystals (fluorite, rhodochrosite...) so please place them carefully.
