What makes this amethyst geode so special?
Amethyst is a violet variety of the mineral quartz (SiO2) and, with a Mohs hardness of 7, is one of the more robust gemstones. Geodes form when mineral-rich waters penetrate cavities and allow crystals to grow there over millions of years – the result is a crystal cave like this one. What is special about this specimen is the completely preserved agate shell on the outside: agate is a banded chalcedony variety and forms the natural "protective mantle" of the geode. The light, lavender hue of the amethyst is created by traces of iron in combination with natural radiation in the Earth's interior.
Can I clean the amethyst geode with water?
Brief rinsing with lukewarm water is possible, but not necessary and not recommended for prolonged exposure – water can settle in the fine crystal interstices and affect the surface in the long term. A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for cleaning. Please avoid direct, prolonged sunlight: amethyst can fade under intense UV light. Moonlight is excellent for energetic charging – simply place it on the windowsill overnight. Alternatively, smudging with sage or Palo Santo works. Since this geode can itself be used as a charging station for other stones, separate charging is usually not necessary.
How do I recognize real amethyst?
Natural crystal points are never perfectly uniform; they show slight color differences, small inclusions, and different growth directions – you can also see this in this geode. The light lavender tone of this geode is absolutely natural and typical for Brazilian finds.
How do I use the geode to charge other stones?
Simply place smaller tumbled stones, pendants, or rough stones in the crystal cave – overnight or for a few hours. Please ensure that you only place harder stones (Mohs hardness 6 or higher) inside, as softer minerals such as selenite, calcite, or fluorite could be scratched by the sharp crystal ends. For delicate stones, a small cloth as a墊 in the cave is recommended.
