Covellite was discovered in 1832 by the Italian mineralogist Niccolò Covelli on Mount Vesuvius – in the volcano's fumaroles, where copper vapors met sulfur gases and crystallized into the deepest blue. Today, it is considered one of the rarest copper minerals of all – there are only a few localities worldwide with collector-quality specimens, and Peru yields the most magnificent ones. What makes its luster so distinctive: Covellite exhibits a strong iridescence effect – its surface reflects light in a spectrum from deep blue to violet to gold, depending on the angle of incidence. This is not a polish, not a treatment – this is the physics of a copper sulfide that refracts light like a natural prism. In the shamanic tradition of South America, deep blue stones were considered a bridge between worlds – carriers of inner voices that have not yet been spoken. 🌍
