Covellite was discovered in 1832 by the Italian mineralogist Niccolò Covelli at Mount Vesuvius – in the volcano's fumaroles, where copper vapors met sulfur gases and crystallized into the deepest blue. Today, it is considered one of the rarest copper minerals in the world – there are only a few collector-quality deposits worldwide, and Peru produces the most magnificent specimens. What makes its luster so distinctive is its strong iridescence – its surface reflects light in a spectrum ranging from deep blue through violet to gold, depending on the angle of incidence. This is not polishing or treatment – it is the physics of a copper sulfide, which refracts light like a natural prism. In the shamanic traditions of South America, deep blue stones were considered a bridge between worlds – carriers of inner voices yet to be spoken. 🌍
