The Vikings crossed the North Atlantic without a compass – and Iolite was their secret. Thin slices of the stone served as a natural polarization filter: viewed through it, even a cloudy sky revealed the sun's exact position. Hence its name – Viking Stone or Sunstone of the Seas. How do I clean and charge my Iolite?
Iolite is sensitive to acids and strong cleaning agents – it is best cleaned with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dried immediately. Energetically, it charges beautifully in moonlight, especially during a full moon. Smudging with Palo Santo or sage gently cleanses its energy. Avoid direct sunlight for extended periods – its play of colors is sensitive to intense radiation.
