What makes Labradorite so special?
Labradorite is a feldspar mineral from the plagioclase group with a Mohs hardness of 6 to 6.5. Its most famous feature is the so-called labradorescence – an optical phenomenon where light reflects off thin, superimposed layers within the stone, creating a luminous play of colors in blue, green, gold, or turquoise. This effect is not a surface sheen but originates deep within the stone itself – in this specimen even from both sides and with a hint of translucency. How do I properly care for my Labradorite pendant?
Labradorite tolerates brief rinsing with lukewarm water but should not be stored wet permanently – and no salt or soapy water, as this can damage the polished surface in the long term. Direct, intense sunlight should be avoided, as colors can fade. Labradorite prefers to charge in moonlight – a night on the windowsill during a full moon is perfectly sufficient. Alternatively, smudging with Palo Santo or placing it on a Selenite plate is suitable. Please do not use ultrasonic cleaners or jewelry cleaners. Simply replace the black cord if needed.
