Why does a mala have exactly 108 beads?
The number 108 is considered a sacred number of spiritual completeness in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. It appears in philosophy, astronomy, and religious scriptures – for example, the distance between the Earth and the Sun is approximately 108 times the Sun's diameter. When meditating with a mala, a mantra is recited with each bead until all 108 are counted. How do I properly care for my Rhodonite, Rose Quartz, and Agate Mala?
Rhodonite (Mohs hardness 5.5–6.5) and Rose Quartz (Mohs hardness 7) tolerate brief rinsing with lukewarm, clear water – then let them air dry thoroughly and avoid chemical cleaning agents. White Agate (Mohs hardness 6.5–7) is also water-tolerant. However, please do not permanently hang the mala in water or store it in direct sunlight, as rose quartz can fade over time. The mala can be beautifully charged on a selenite plate or in the moonlight of a full moon night – you will immediately feel the refreshed energy when you wear it next. It is best to store it in a pouch or a small box so that the cord is not damaged.

Rose Quartz, on the other hand, is more uniform in color, a more delicate pink, and slightly milky-translucent. Dyed howlite or plastic are occasionally sold as substitutes: Real stones feel cooler to the touch than plastic and, upon closer inspection, show typical natural streaks and inclusions. This mala consists of natural, polished gemstones from India without artificial treatment.
Can I wear the mala daily, or is it only for meditation?
Absolutely both! Traditionally, the mala is used in meditation or mantra recitation – but few who have once worn it ever put it away. The approx. 90 cm length can be wrapped multiple times around the wrist (for delicate wrists, it tends to be too large) or worn as a long necklace. The gold-plated lotus pendant with a pink tassel gives an everyday look a spiritual touch without being obtrusive. If you use the mala for both meditation and as jewelry, regular (dry) cleaning with selenite or smudging is recommended so that it retains its fresh energy.
