To refresh the mala's energy, you can hold it over frankincense or Palo Santo smoke, place it on selenite plates, or put it by a window during a full moon. It's best to store it in a pouch or box to protect the beads from scratches and preserve the scent. How do I use the mala in meditation?
Hold the mala in your right hand, starting at the guru bead. With your thumb and middle finger, grasp the first bead and recite your mantra – then slide to the next bead. The index finger is traditionally not used, as it is considered the ego finger. After 108 repetitions, you will be back at the guru bead – turn the chain around if you want to do another round, and never cross over the guru bead. You can also simply hold the mala in both hands, close your eyes, and consciously inhale the scent of Palo Santo – this is also meditation.
