Here you really need to be careful. Since phosphosiderite is quite soft with a Mohs hardness of maximum 4, it differs greatly from quartz like amethyst or carnelian.
- No Water Bath: It is sensitive to moisture. A quick rinse is okay, but never leave it in a glass of water for hours (that can dull the surface).
- Caution with Chemicals: Perfume, hairspray, or cleaning agents are pure poison for this stone. It can discolor or permanently lose its shine.
- Scratch Hazard: Even a fingernail or a hard keychain in your pocket can scratch the stone. It is best to wear it as a pendant over clothing or store it in a soft cloth bag.
