What makes this Smoky Quartz pendant so special?
Smoky Quartz is a variety of the quartz mineral (SiO₂) with a Mohs hardness of 7 and is formed by natural gamma radiation deep within the earth, which gives the crystal its characteristic smoky-brown to almost black color. What makes this pendant special is the rare rainbow inclusion inside: tiny internal fissures break the light into a short spectrum of colors – this is pure nature, no trickery. Left as a raw stone and set with a simple silver eyelet, it carries the unadulterated energy of the crystal directly on the body.
How do I properly care for my Smoky Quartz pendant?
Smoky Quartz can be briefly cleaned under running, lukewarm water – a Mohs hardness of 7 makes it water-resistant, but prolonged soaking should be avoided as the silver eyelet may tarnish. No ultrasonic bath! Recharging works wonderfully on a selenite crystal or overnight in moonlight. Direct, intense sunlight for long periods can lighten the smoky color – but short light baths are not a problem. Smudging with sage or palo santo is a gentle alternative for cleaning.
How do I recognize real Smoky Quartz?
Real Smoky Quartz has an irregular, natural-looking coloration – often lighter at the edges, deeper in the core. Be cautious of extremely uniformly colored, perfectly transparent stones at unusually low prices – this can indicate rock crystal that has been artificially browned. What is the rainbow inclusion and how do I see it?
The rainbow inclusion is caused by tiny internal cracks or layers within the crystal that divide light into its color components according to the principle of dispersion.
