How do I properly care for my Rainbow Obsidian pendant?
Rainbow obsidian can be briefly rinsed under lukewarm water – please do not soak it permanently, as this can damage the cord and the drill hole. Direct, prolonged sun exposure is not recommended, as intense UV radiation can diminish the play of colors over time. It is best to charge it overnight in moonlight; especially during a full moon, it unfolds its full energy. Alternatively, you can energetically cleanse it on a selenite wand or by smudging with sage or Palo Santo. Please do not use an ultrasonic cleaner – this can damage the structure around the drill hole in drilled stones.

If you hold a genuine rainbow obsidian in sunlight or under a bright lamp, the colors appear – in the shade, it remains completely black. Dyed black agate or dyed resin do not show this effect. Be cautious of stones that show their play of colors even without direct light – this indicates artificial treatment or an imitation.
Does Rainbow Obsidian differ from Black Obsidian?
Both originate from the same volcanic formation and share their grounding, protective basic energy. The main difference: Rainbow obsidian contains fine inclusions that refract light into a spectrum of colors, while black obsidian remains completely opaque and uniformly black.
