This ruby with kyanite rough stone unites two contrasting elements – the warm rose-red of the ruby and the cool blue kyanite veins that flow through the stone like rivers. Fascinating by day. Ruby was considered the most valuable stone in almost all ancient cultures – the Sanskrit name "ratnaraj" means king of gemstones. Burmese warriors had rubies carved under their skin, believing they would make them invulnerable. How do I care for this raw stone?
Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Kyanite is sensitive to strong pressure – do not drop it, as it can break along its cleavage planes. You can energetically cleanse it beautifully with incense (palo santo or frankincense are well-suited to its powerful energy) or in moonlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. For the UV experience, use a 365nm UV flashlight – the glow will be most intense at this wavelength. 🔴
Why does ruby glow under UV light?
Ruby contains chromium – the same element that gives it its red color. This chromium absorbs UV radiation and re-emits it as a visible red glow, a phenomenon called fluorescence. The glow is so distinctive that gemologists use it to identify genuine rubies – synthetic rubies often glow differently or not at all. For the best experience: darken the room and point a 365nm UV lamp directly at the stone. 🔴
