Sugilite was discovered in 1944 by the Japanese petrographer Ken-ichi Sugi – initially considered a geological curiosity, today it is one of the most sought-after collector's stones in the world. The only significant deposit is located in the Wessels Mine in South Africa, deep beneath the Kalahari manganese field at a depth of over 800 meters. This makes it one of the few gemstones that truly exist only in one place in the world – and the deposits are dwindling. Anyone buying today is buying a stone that will likely be more expensive tomorrow. The characteristic black inclusions of richterite and manganese are not flaws – they are the Earth's signature, making each stone unique. 🌍

Sugilite is a delicate stone – no water, no cleaning agents, no ultrasonic baths. The best way to cleanse it is with a soft, dry cloth. The most effective way to energetically cleanse it is with incense (frankincense or palo santo) or by leaving it overnight in moonlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as it can fade the intense color over time. This way, it will remain as deep and beautiful as the day it was purchased.
