Labradorite belongs to the feldspar group and is known for its characteristic play of color, the so-called labradorescence – an optical phenomenon caused by the refraction of light on internal layer structures. Sunset Labradorite is a particularly sought-after variety in which, in addition to the typical blue, warm orange and purple tones also appear. Madagascar is considered one of the world's best sources for these intensely colored pieces.
How do I properly care for my Labradorite pendant?
Labradorite can be briefly cleaned with lukewarm water – but no prolonged soaking, as it has delicate cleavage planes. Prolonged sun exposure can diminish the play of color over time, so it's best not to place it in direct sunlight for hours. Moonlight is excellent for charging – simply place it on the windowsill overnight. Alternatively, charging on a selenite stone or by smudging with white sage works. Do not use an ultrasonic cleaner for this stone!
How do I recognize real Labradorite?
Real Labradorite shows its play of color only from certain angles – you have to turn the stone slightly for the colors to light up. Dyed glass or fakes, on the other hand, glow evenly from every position. Fine cleavage planes and a certain depth in the play of color are also typical for real Labradorite. A very uniform, perfect color field over the entire surface is more of a warning sign. Our Sunset Labradorite is 100% natural and untreated.
What distinguishes Sunset Labradorite from ordinary Labradorite?
Classic Labradorite primarily shows blue and green color reflections. With Sunset Labradorite, warm orange and gold tones as well as purple come into play – an interplay that is significantly rarer and reminiscent of a sunset. This color combination results from a special composition of the internal layer structures and is mainly found in certain mining areas of Madagascar.
