Yooperlite was only discovered in 2017 by Erik Rintamaki on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan – and immediately caused a minor sensation. The name comes from the "Yoopers," the inhabitants of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, who had lived on these beaches for generations, unaware of what lay dormant in their sand at night under UV light. Geologically, yooperlite is a sodalite-bearing syenite – a igneous rock that was polished to the lakeshore by the glaciers of the last Ice Age. The intense orange color is created by sodalite inclusions that convert UV radiation into a visible glow. No other mineral does this so dramatically. 🔥

How do I clean my Yooperlite tumbled stone?
Yooperlite is robust – simply rinse it briefly under lukewarm water and dry it thoroughly. The best way to energetically cleanse it is with incense (Palo Santo or sage) or by leaving it overnight in the moonlight. To ground it, you can also briefly place it on the earth – it thrives on its volcanic origins.
Which UV lamp do I need to see the glow?
A UV flashlight with a wavelength of 365 nm works best – you can find them cheaply online. Regular blacklights with 395 nm will also show the glow, but less intensely. The experience is most impressive in a completely darkened room. Then it glows like lava. 🌋
